The Chequers, Aylesford delivering free meals to the elderly

We at The Chequers in Aylesford have been delivering free daily home cooked meals to our vulnerable and elderly residents since Monday 16th March - our elderly residents get a choice of two or three meals each day, they order by phone before 11am and it's delivered to them between 4- 6pm that day. On a Sunday we're delivering them a lovely homecooked roast and they get that midday.

We're delivering over 75 meals a day and a team of local people have been volunteering by helping us deliver these meals. MP Tracey Crouch and Councillors Steve Hammond and Colin Williams have also been helping us daily. In addition we've worked with a local school who have been writing letters to our isolated and vulnerable residents and including them in the bags and one of our volunteers is calling a couple of the elderly people every morning to check in on them. At a time when elderly residents are more cut off from community than ever we wanted to do something positive and helpful. Our business model has been turned upside down in a space of two weeks but we've responded with positivity and community spirit which has been so well received. Any over 70 in the community of Aylesford who would like a free daily home cooked meal delivered can contact us on 01622717286 by 11am each morning and it will be delivered to them that day. We encourage sons, daughters, granddaughters and grandsons to think about their elderly relatives and do ask them to get in touch with us or do it for them.
